Fuel prices remain a constant annoyance for motorists.

If you need to fill up your car around Easter, you should choose the day carefully. Because if you fill up (too) early, you will pay more than you have to.

Once again this year, the ÖAMTC recommends planning your refueling well around the Easter holidays. Experience shows that Good Friday is the most expensive day of the entire Easter weekend. But even though this critical day is already behind us, caution is still advised. Analyses of the past five years show that fuel prices are highest on Good Friday, while filling up on Easter Sunday and Monday is usually much cheaper.

Price differences of 3.5 to 5.5 cents per liter have been observed recently.

Due to the USA’s aggressive tariff policy, crude oil prices have fallen significantly and are currently at a similar level to the last time in mid-2021. At Austrian petrol stations, a liter of diesel cost around 1.20 euros then, while super was around 5 cents more expensive.

However, in the middle of the week, average prices per liter were significantly higher at just over 1.50 euros. This is due to the additional CO₂ surcharge, which amounts to 16.5 cents (diesel) or 15 cents (super), including VAT. On the other hand, the lower crude oil prices have only had a limited impact at the pumps, so the club sees an immediate reduction potential of at least five cents.

Regardless of the price level, driving with foresight and saving fuel is good for your wallet and the environment and contributes to road safety.
